The African Union of Youth Assembly (AUYA) stands as the preeminent youth platform on the African continent, encompassing the largest and most expansive network of young individuals. Operating independently as a civilian treaty organization, AUYA is founded with 54 African nations as its permanent signatories, alongside 141 international observer countries, culminating in a global representation of 195 countries.

The designation ‘AFRICAN (UNION OF YOUTH) ASSEMBLY’ symbolizes the collective of Africa’s marginalized youth, uniting under a common banner. As an autonomous entity, AUYA is a non-profit, apolitical, and non-governmental organization, maintaining no legal ties with the African Union Commission nor any affiliation with the African Union’s bodies or organs.

AUYA’s mission is to champion the causes and interests of Africa’s underserved youth, both within the continent and globally. It provides a dynamic platform for youth engagement and policy discourse, with the goal of empowering young Africans to participate actively in decision-making processes that address critical issues such as climate change, leadership, development, and peace.

Through AUYA, young voices find expression, ideas are exchanged, and contributions are made towards forging Africa’s future. The organization is instrumental in fostering youth participation, leadership, and development across the continent. Among its core objectives, AUYA endeavors to educate the youth about the African Union and its pivotal initiatives, particularly ‘The Africa We Want’ agenda—an essential milestone for the organization. It also aims to enlighten the youth on their role in realizing this vision, while promoting unity, solidarity, and harmony through the spirit of oneness and Pan-Africanism.

The African Union of Youth Assembly (AUYA) is a dynamic, multifaceted organization with a vast and intricate network of administrative units, offices, and departments. It is dedicated to engaging and training marginalized youth from the grassroots level across a wide range of professions, including International Relations, Diplomacy, Politics, Leadership, Governance, Public Administration, Science and Technology, Diplomatic and Humanitarian Services, Agriculture and Farming, Activism and Social Advocacy, Research and Foreign Policy, Globalization, and Free Trade programs.

With over 845 million young people in Africa, AUYA has 845 million reasons to collaborate with them! The organization is committed to fostering community resilience, proposing innovative solutions, driving social progress, influencing youth empowerment, and inspiring transformative change. Recognizing young people as a tremendous and essential asset, AUYA invests in their potential to shape the future.

Both the AU Agenda 2063 and UN Agenda 2030 acknowledge the critical role of youth as a driving force in Africa’s future. Their active participation in the implementation of these agendas is crucial to ensure that their voices, aspirations, and needs are considered in decision-making processes at all levels. To support these goals, AUYA operates as an independent entity, upholding the values enshrined in its Treaty. Founded by 54 influential youth leaders, it serves as an umbrella organization for country-based parliamentary youth assemblies and coordinates with voluntary organizations and NGOs that share the values of the Alliance, established since its inception in 2017.

The African Union of Youth Assembly (AUYA) was established through a treaty signed by influential Youth Presidents from 54 African countries, united by the vision of creating the first independent African Youth government. This historic agreement was reached during the General Assembly meeting, emphasizing the commitment to advocate for the youth of Africa, as envisioned by its founders and trustees.

The AUYA’s annual youth assembly is a pivotal event focused on solution-driven dialogue, where young people are given a platform to voice their concerns and perspectives on societal issues and the significant challenges they encounter in their communities, as well as the broader global issues affecting youth today. The event features a diverse array of speakers, including prominent leaders, politicians, diplomats, think tanks, policymakers, economists, educators, heads of civil society organizations, government officials, media personalities, humanitarians, activists, and advocates.

These thought leaders come together to address and devise solutions for the pressing challenges and issues facing Africa, its people, and the world at large. Founded with the purpose of coordinating its independent national parliamentary youth assemblies, youth councils, and youth organizations across the African continent, AUYA’s membership comprises the Youth Presidents of each country, Security Councils, regional youth chapters, young politicians groups, the Emerging Leaders and Young Diplomats Cohorts, advocates caucus, climate activists, student volunteers, community platforms, and more. This extensive network underscores AUYA’s commitment to fostering unity, engagement, and empowerment among Africa’s youth.

The African Union of Youth Assembly (AUYA) is committed to the advancement of young people and youth organizations across a spectrum of program areas, including education, employment, environment, human rights, democracy, population, health, drugs, peace, diplomacy, gender equality, community development, and leadership training. Activities AUYA’s principal activities include convening national parliamentary youth assemblies from individual countries to the continental level.

It supports the African Union Commission (AU) and national governments in realizing the AU Agenda 2063 and the United Nations’ youth agenda 2030, including UN Resolution 2250 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These initiatives aim to empower youth and enhance the quality of life throughout Africa and beyond, promoting infrastructure, human capital, and resource development.

This aligns with the vision of ‘The Africa We Want’, encompassing extensive development projects across African countries and serving as a beacon of hope for the youth of Africa, including those residing abroad.AUYA actively mobilizes and trains young individuals to lead change and emerge as visionary leaders, changemakers, idea creators, high thinkers, and solution providers for African development in various fields.

NOMINATION & COUNTRY'S YOUTH PRESIDENT ELECTIONS
AUYA conducts a meticulous nomination and election process for its Country Youth Presidents. The AUYA Electoral Council, comprising a distinguished panel of elders, patrons, and juries of experts from the fields of leadership, politics, diplomacy, international relations, and global governance, oversees this process.

These experts bring a wealth of experience in electoral procedures and fact-checking to ensure the integrity of the elections.Candidates for Country Youth President are nominated by their respective country’s government bodies, agencies, ministries, civil society organizations, and institutions. These nominations are based on compelling evidence and facts, adhering to strict nomination criteria that reflect the nominees’ outstanding performance and meritorious activities within their home countries and communities.

This rigorous process ensures that only the most suitable and deserving individuals are selected for the role.Following the nomination phase, the Electoral Council conducts a thorough re-screening of all qualified nominees and shortlisted applicants, incorporating expert evaluations into the selection process. Subsequently, a vote is held among the Security Council members of AUYA, including its Fact-Checking and Anti-Corruption Critics Committee, to finalize the election of the Country Youth Presidents. This comprehensive approach guarantees that the elected leaders are well-equipped to represent and lead the youth of their nations.
