About our Director for Women & Children Affairs,
(Hon. Ms. Naomi Sewela)

Hon. Ambassador Naomi Sewela made history to be the First to hold the AUYA's Director of Women and Children affairs position. She serves on dual positions, as both Chief advisor and also a Senior Member of the Security Council at AUYA.

Her executive role and duties include, overseeing the organization’s work for Women and children in 54 African countries that are permanent signatory, including 141 foreign observer countries and territories. Ms. Sewela brings to the role decades of experience in public service, with a focus on empowering underserved communities in Africa and around the world, developing high-impact policies and programmes to support women and girls, including in humanitarian crises.

She has extensive experience building and managing diverse workforces, as well as mobilizing resources and political support for a broad range of initiatives. From 2022 to 2023, Ms. Sewela previously served under the International Affairs Secretary of the World Diplomatic Organization as the Assistant to the High Commissioner and Director of Women. She previously served from 2019 to 2021 as Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues on similar position in the organization, where she integrated women’s issues across all elements of the East African Women policy, represented the organization in more than 45 countries, and worked in partnership with other governments, multilateral organizations, and civil societies.

She successfully completed the (AUYA's Diplomatic Cohort Class 2020) in International Law, Political Economics and Diplomacy Option, from the (Consular & Diplomatic Service University -CDSU) and graduated with the AUYA's Ambassadorial Training Certification License Grade 4 with a First Class Honnors.
